WELLBEING TEAM

Louise Howitt

After originally qualifying as a doctor and working in the NHS for 2 years, in 2016 I took a change in career path and moved into working in the arts, with an interest in dance and creative movement.
I worked in this industry for a number of years, working on a variety of arts projects including working with adults, youth, children and early years, and in a variety of SEN settings including special schools and working with adults with learning disability and/ or autism. I also project managed a youth arts project for XLP, and the Royal Ballet and Opera Chance to Dance primary school outreach project.
I continue to hold a number of positions in arts organisations and am constantly exploring how the arts can be interwoven into our NHS mental healthcare.
I am currently working within Learning Disability psychiatry and have a passion for working with individuals with learning disability, neurodivergence and autism. I recently won a prize with the RCPsych ID faculty and am working on a research project with CANDDID investigating arts with people with learning disabilities. I am trained in Makaton and am a Learning Disability Champion for EPUT.
